After 47 years of service, the last original board member of the Live Oak and Soquel Fire Districts and the last founding board member of the Central Fire Protection District has retired.
Ron Pederson, 75, is stepping down to focus on beating cancer, a fight he has won twice already.
“I haven’t missed a day of work and I wanted to serve out my last term, but I just got to a point where I ran out of gas,” Pederson said.
Pederson began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Live Oak Fire District in 1969 and was elected to the board of the Live Oak Fire District in 1980. When the Live Oak, Soquel and Capitola fire districts were consolidated into the Central Fire Protection District in 1987, he became a founding board member.
